The Many Face Of Poison Ivy
I noticed this summer that many people don't know what poison ivy looks like. There are many different forms it can take on but most people just think, leaves of three, leave it be. Knowing for sure will help you avoid those long battles with the itch devil. It's Autumn here in New England so this is what it looks like now:
Notice the three steps on the outside of the leaf. Not all have that. This also has some mottling of color and isn't shiny. Not all poison ivy is shiny, just the very young ones.
Might not think that those are poison ivy. What about this one?
Check out how tiny they can get! Notice the clovers and grass blades.
Those are a little larger but uncharacteristically far away from each other. I wouldn't immediately look at those and think leaves of three..
This bad boy is NOT poison ivy but still has leaves of three. Don't assume everything that has three leaves is untouchable. Anybody know what this is?
Have you ever seen this before?
Yeah. See that bushy, clump of who knows what? That, my friends, is also poison ivy. You CAN get the oils on your skin all year round from touching this jerk, so be aware.
And now you know. Some great photos to help you familiarize yourself a little bit more with poison ivy; whether you are not allergic (but really just mean that you never go outside) or you are deathly allergic and get it just from taking pictures of it, like me. Hope it helps! I definitely have it now. I felt so itchy taking these photos.
